PP Prasai Foundation, in collaboration with Great Expectations (GE) USA, organised an intensive 11-day teacher training programme at Gyanodaya Secondary School, a local government school in Nepal. GE is a school transformation model and non-profit organisation that equips teachers with evidence-based instructional practices to help them be most effective in the classroom.

Led by two GE trainers from the USA, the programme engaged 13 teachers and educators, preparing them not only as effective classroom practitioners but also as future trainers. Running from 22 July to 4 August 2025 the training combined interactive workshops, classroom observations, and practical teaching exercises. Participants also observed lessons in previously trained schools to ensure cultural relevance and share best practice, while intensive sessions focused on effective teaching strategies, classroom management, and student engagement.

Session 1 – Training for Interns

The programme began with a two-day training session for 13 interns focused on understanding and implementing the GE model. This training mirrored the approach used for regular teachers, guiding participants on how to become model educators. The sessions included a variety of interactive activities to help them internalise GE principles.

As part of Session 1, the group conducted a one-day observation visit to Neel Barahi Secondary School. This school, along with Gyanodaya Secondary School and another local school, had received GE training in April 2024, reaching around 50 teachers. During this visit, the interns and trainers assessed how effectively the GE training had been implemented in classrooms. They provided constructive feedback on improving instructional methods, engaging students more effectively, and fostering a positive classroom environment.

Session 2 – Training for New Teachers

The second phase brought in approximately 25 teachers from three different government schools for a three-day training programme. This time, the 13 interns played a crucial role by assisting the trainers as co-facilitators, interpreters, and translators, ensuring the sessions ran smoothly.

Following this training, the team conducted a three-day classroom observation at Gyanodaya Secondary School, focusing on teachers who had received training in the previous year. The trainers, supported by the interns, observed lessons, took notes, and provided tailored feedback to help teachers strengthen their practice and sustain the GE approach.

Session 3 – Final Intern Training

The programme concluded with a two-day final training session for the interns. Each intern delivered a presentation summarising their learning over the past weeks, reflecting on the various GE principles and how they could apply them in their own classrooms and in training others. This final step reinforced their readiness to act as local trainers, contributing to the long-term sustainability of the programme.

The introduction of classroom observation tools and the establishment of mentorship plans in the final phase further strengthened teaching capacity in the participating schools. This initiative not only built the skills of individual educators but also laid the groundwork for a sustainable, locally led training network that can continue to uplift teaching standards in Nepal for years to come.
